Depression Disorder

Depression has become prevalent these days. More and more people are diagnosed to be suffering from depression while a significant number are left undetected but are also suffering from the ailment. It is therefore crucial to become aware of the depression disorder in order to fight the ailment and be cured from it.

Depression is such a huge word that a single definition may not be enough. Usually the ailment is associated with psychological and medical factors. The disorder is often traced to the chemical imbalance in the brain, the reason most doctors would prescribed medicines to treat the disorder.

Others who believe that depression is more likely to be psychological in nature would do away with the prescription drugs and instead would go for psychotherapy sessions. The disorder is also largely attributed to stress that is prevalent nowadays.

The disorder can range from mild to severe. Mild cases are easily treated even without one having to take prescriptive medicines. Usually when one alters his routine and find ways to divert his depression into something more productive, the depression goes away. But in serious cases that cause interruption of routine and risk to one’s health and to one’s life, the person may need to undergo intensive consultation with one’s doctor.

You may recognized depression disorder through the following symptoms: (1) mood swings, anxiety, sadness, and emptiness; (2) sudden loss of enthusiasm and interest for the activities previously enjoyed; (3) sudden and inexplicable weight loss or weight gain; (4) sleep disorder- too much sleep or lack of it; (5) lethargy or loss of energy; (6) frequent bouts with negative feelings that may sometimes lead to thinking of committing suicide.

A doctor’s diagnosis of the existence of the depression disorder is crucial. Once a correct diagnosis is obtained, an individual has several options to treat the disorder from prescriptive to natural remedies.
