Depression Cause

Behavioral experts have yet to determine how depression is triggered. Depression cause various illnesses but the reason behind depressive symptoms has not been singled out until now. The usual explanation we had in the past is that a person gets depressed as a result of thoughts and emotions that he or she could not stand. There are various factors that trigger depression in an individual. Among all these are three major factors: genetic, biological and environmental.

It is said that depressive symptoms can be inherited from parents. There were studies conducted on depressed adopted children and based on the results, the foster parents do not have depressive tendencies while the biological parents have.

Biological factors that trigger depression in an individual have something to do with the fluctuation of hormonal levels that lead to the imbalance of neurotransmitters—substances that allow the communication between brain cells. Serotonin and norepinephrine are neurotransmitters that are related to depression. Decrease in serotonin may cause irritability, anxiety and sleep problems. Deficiency in norepinephrine also makes an individual depressed due to fatigue, stress and mood swings.

While these two factors are uncontrollable, environmental or emotional depression cause come from situations that may inflict emotional stress making an individual vulnerable to depression. Abrupt changes and breakup from emotional attachments may also trigger depressive symptoms.

Other factors that may contribute to depression cause are physical illnesses, chronic medical conditions, and substance abuse. In this case, if the causes are alleviated, depression will be treated accordingly. Solution focused therapy are utilized to address the causes of depression. A mental health expert has to be sought for a thorough diagnosis of the patient’s condition and an appropriate treatment for such.
